picture of The FoxThere aren't many gastropubs on this stretch of the Kingsland Road (none, in fact) so depending on your point of view you'll either welcome the Fox or avoid it entirely. This one goes even further and - like the over-hyped Duke of Cambridge in Angel - prides itself on being organic. Happily, as far as we're concerned, its quite a likeable place. Although we didn't try the food, the menu looked good (if pricey) and reports are positive, but on our first visit it worked just fine as a pub. The lighting was sophisticated and the feel of the place warm, with plenty of couches and candles offset against exposed brickwork. Sure, couches and exposed brickwork are nothing new but it was done pretty well here. There seemed to be an emphasis on being child friendly, so there's the possibly that Sunday Lunch could get a bit heavy-going, but other than that the Fox is a welcome spot for a relaxing drink.
