The Hope is a small, popular, traditional pub located just off Tottenham Court Road. It's a bare-boards sort of pub and a bit grubby with it, but it's heart's in the right place. Serving real ales - six pumps, but only three working, with Landlord and the rare Cornish Buccaneer on when we were last in - it's a handy spot for people who work in the area (mostly media types) who want good, honest beer and unpretentious pub grub (we like the sausage of the week). There are a couple of flat screen TVs for the big matches, free WiFi and a bar/function room upstairs that does stand-up comedy on Tuesdays. It's a friendly place - everyone seems to know the bar staff - and it's very popular, so arrive early if you plan to meet here, especially towards the end of the week. The Hope's scruffiness might not be everyone's cup of tea (especially the loos), but it's a welcome antidote to the antiseptic refurbishments that abound in the West End.
