One of the few proper pubs left on Islington's main drag. It's now a Nicholson's and does everything to the standards we've come to expect from them. The beer is good - Pride, Bombardier and guests on the many hand pumps, supported by a decent wine list and the usual spirits - and it's promptly and pleasantly served. It's a big pub, so there's usually plenty of room, although it does get crowded, at the times you'd expect, towards the end of the week and especially after the antique market closes. There are a few screens dotted around the place, so it's also a popular spot for watching sport and as it's almost the closest pub to Angel tube, it is a favourite meeting place, before heading north up Upper Street. It's a decent pub, when it's not overly crowded, however, unlike most of the clientele, we don't feel the outside seating is particularly enticing - unless you're really into NOX, particulates and avant-garde poetry (as practised by some of the local street residents).
