Rather a dire pub, unfortunately, that prompted us to wonder whether its atmosphere was more reminiscent of pubs found in dodgy estates or in major railway termini. In the end, we concluded that it was more like a bar in a Maplins-style holiday camp, but devoid of any joy, charm or memorable character whatsoever. There is seating at two levels, a larger upstairs area (where the bar is located) and a lower area by two sets of entrance doors. The few drinkers present were of the ignorant, shouty, type. Decoration is provided principally by a selection of framed newspaper covers from decades past: it is perhaps worthy of mention that the overwhelming majority of those displayed mark the death of someone or other, such as Marilyn Monroe or John F. Kennedy. This seems rather unfair, as we can confidently state that neither of them would have chosen to be seen dead in such a miserable place.
