how to find it:
Turn right out of Hendon Central tube and head along the Watford Way. At the traffic lights ahead, turn right along The Burroughs. Just after the university buildings, turn left down Church End and the pub will be visible just ahead of you, on the right.

Chequers is a large pleasant-looking pub in one of the nicer parts of Hendon. It's a shame, then, that it promises rather more than it delivers. From the Fosters sign outside which toppled over after going rusty, to the jarring discordancy of competing TVs on different channels too near to each other, it felt like a pub which had, in some measure, lost its way. The interior is comfortable enough, but the beer selection and the service were skipping along the bottom half of average. Unless part of a pub crawl perhaps, under normal circumstances the nearby Greyhound offers a considerably better pub experience.
