picture of The Bird In HandThis modern style boozer in the Widmore area is really more of a restaurant. There's not much of a bar area and it tends to be frequented by people having a pre-dinner drink before moving in to the restaurant. Thanks to its location it's really somewhere you'd make a special trip to go to rather than popping along for a drink, not the sort of place you'd choose to have a piss up then as you'd probably have to drive to get there (plenty of space for parking). The menu in general is expensive and consists of fancy dishes, with not much choice for vegetarians. It's the sort of place where the clientele tend to be people who think they are posh as they have organised this 'special' venue for their company event lunch. But to us it's not that much more than a tarted up pub. On the plus side, the place does have a warm and cosy feel to it, comfortable furniture and open fire and the like and could be nice in the winter, perhaps at Christmas. Also, in the summer, we're told they host some rather entertaining bird shows. Very fitting.
