Call this a review in progress, as on our brief lunchtime visit only one of the two bars was open. But one of the warmest welcomes we have had at a new venue and the clean, smart yet comfortable lines and mix of wooden tables and chairs and big comfortable banquettes bodes well. The charming Italian barman sang the praises of the impressive looking food menu and of the "lovely people" who pack the place out at weekends. The other barman then sprang into action as two mothers with pushchairs came in, holding the door, helping them sort out the buggies and taking their drinks order at the table. The curmudgeonly among us may question whether child-friendly is a plus of a minus, but the place is big enough to find tranquillity in an opposite corner to enjoy the well kept Adnams. On first sight The Railway could be that rare beast: a station pub worth visiting.
