Having had a lick of paint and new signs put up, this pub no longer looks so dark and foreboding from outside. Step inside and you'll find a jolly traditional pub - owned by Wychwood - and one that houses a happy mix all-round. It sits on a quiet corner of this delightful area, just 2 minutes from Marylebone station and the unstoppable A40. It's on a road that mixes Georgian charm with the calling card of the Luftwaffe, the latter the fate of the pub's earlier building. The pub caters equally well for a good mix of locals and suits, and offers Thai food and real ale from Wychwood. For those in party mood there are Jugs of Vodka Red Bull or Pimm's, and you can even hire the cellar bar. The staff were friendly and helpful and encourage you to sample the beers, before deciding and, though pretty full on our visit, it's usually quieter than a pub like this deserves to be.
