picture of RoebuckA great pub with something for everyone: the post-ironic 70s and cod-African wallpaper in the main bar would make Austin Powers feel at home, almost, while gentle lighting, from a diverse and arty collection of lamps, and a low, gently pumping soundtrack add to the flavour. There's a good selection of areas to sit in the main bar, ranging from open tables to private nooks, while there is another, basement, bar, and a conservatory out the back. The range of good quality beers is wide, both in bottles and on tap, ranging from Belgians, Germans and Czechs through to St. Petersburg's Baltika number 3, and several real ales on hand pumps, and a wine selection. There's a food menu, too, if a bit less extensive than you might expect in a place like this. Board games if that's what you fancy, with a book lending library, and Sunday evening film club (mainly arthouse continental European numbers) too. All in all a first-rate establishment - that is clearly trying hard to be more than just another pub, and for the most part succeeding. And there are antlers on the outside.

Eating at the Roebuck ... we last ate here on 12/04/2007

Not an amazingly wide menu, but the quality makes up for it. It changes daily too, so the food is always fresh. Possibly the best pub food this reviewer has ever eaten. A mix of British and Continental European dishes, elegantly presented and competently served.
