Gospel Oak: Exit Gospel Oak BR station and turn left up Gordon Road to the junction with Highgate Road. Turn left and keep walking. You'll come to the pub at the roundabout with Swain's Lane. Kentish Town: It's a long walk from the tube, but to get the pub from here, exit the tube, cross the road and head up to the Forum. Pass it on your left and keep going up Highgate Road. Keep on Highgate Road for the next 15-20 minutes, passing the Bull and Last pub on the way. You'll come to the pub at the roundabout with Swain's Lane.

After a previous unpleasant visit here last year we're pleased to see that a change of ownership has made the Duke of St Albans a considerably more pleasant pub to spend time in. Décor-wise not much has changed; it's a bit tatty and some chairs need reupholstering, while the pool table could do with some TLC. But its clear they're making an effort; pot plants now appear on tables, while we also spied blackboards around the pillars filled with quiz questions, which was an interesting idea we've not seen before. A couple of regular cask ales are complimented by a reasonably priced pub grub menu and there's jazz on Sunday nights, if that's your sort of thing. We've been told its still 'work in progress', but nonetheless we're happy to upgrade this one from a pretty dire 'nearly zero' rating to an acceptable two. We've always thought a decent pub would fit in nicely with the neighbouring parade of old style shops and cafes and we hope that the Duke finds it's place here.
