picture of Old Ship InnThe Old Ship is a large pub on the north bank of the river, just down from Hammersmith bridge, with a handy, grassed, open space just to the side of it. You don't have to be Einstein to surmise that on a warm day in summer this area would prove to be very popular. And indeed it is, so much so that a warm bank holiday will find little available space for latecomers to park their picnics and grab a pint. There's an elevated terrace too, but you'll have to be a very early bird to nab a place there. Recently taken over by Young's, the Old Ship doesn't yet appear to have changed that much - only one pump with Young's bitter in operation and a decidedly un-Young's Erdinger present amongst the gas-propelled brigade. And the clientele are exactly the same as before. As you'd expect on a prime site like this, food is heavily promoted - something the owners seem to be doing rather a lot of nowadays - and it's family-friendly, got a function room and has WiFi if you just can't stop Twittering. The old Old Ship never really was our cup of tea (can you say that about a pub?) - the weekend hordes put paid to that - and in it's latest guise, we can't really see that opinion changing.
