how to find it:

Turn right from the tube and walk down Upney Lane. Turn left at the roundabout and walk down Ripple Road until you meet Alfred's Way. The pub is next to the road.

picture of Thatched HouseGloriously situated betwixt the A13 and Rippleside burial ground, the Thatched House greets you with a giant Double Diamond sign on its roof (sadly, it isn't served within). The car park was dotted with white vans and Ford Escorts on our visit and the motors do reflect the clientele. Inside, it's a dark, subdued sort of place with perfunctory drink and little to keep you here. Few people will seek this place out. Most will nudge the accelerator pedal as they glimpse it from the road...
