picture of The WoodmanSomewhat belying the surrounding tower blocks, this stretch of Battersea High Street is home to three swish drinkeries. Whereas The Castle is light and airy and Le Quecumbar all elegant furnishings, the Woodman aims for a more traditional look, with a dark wood interior giving off a welcoming feel. The sizeable back room comes as a surprise given the homely exterior and although there's the slight feeling that the gastro magic wand has been waved about the place, there's not a lot to detract from the overall solid pub feel. Hall & Woodhouse are quietly putting together a decent chain of pubs across London: this one's up there with its sister pubs The Ship and Shovell and St. Stephen's Tavern. If you like them, try this one.
