Sitting on this quiet tree-lined road, you'd be forgiven to imagine that if The Ordnance is as good on the inside as it is on the outside, a very nice pub indeed lies within. Rather upmarket and with St. John's Wood prices to match, this is an unpretentious Sam Smiths pub, away from their usual W1 area. With a predominantly wooden interior, a couple of couches and interesting lighting, there is a warm, homely atmosphere, even in the conservatory. There is also a conscious effort on the food front and although pricey, it's reasonable for the area and well made. Finally, as a bonus, a small leafy garden extends around two sides of the pub. Its never too crowded - presumably, the wealthy locals aren't pub fans. Its a shame then that the welcome from the staff is never exactly enthusiastic and the poorly chosen chain-wide 'no-music' policy somewhat kills the atmosphere. These last two quibbles nearly make it a two pinter in our book, but we still have a soft spot for drinking here.
