how to find it:
Four buses terminate 50 feet from the Stag, (329, 317, 310, 192) and a lot more travel nearby. Enfield Chase Train station is also less than 5 minutes away. Turn right out of the station and walk down the hill, over the lights and it's on your left, behind the Church.

As Enfield Town's first upmarket pub (or 'bar and restaurant', as it like to call itself), how does the new-look Stag fare? Notwithstanding the fact that we liked it before, the new look is fine, too. Out went the cosy U-shaped bench seating and in came Ikea-style chairs. Windows are now unfrosted (but happily still leaded) and everything is painted in pastel, calming colours; the overall look is known as 'playing it safe'. The music from the video jukebox however was frankly rubbish, with R&B featuring too heavily for a place with aspirations. The food is very good, but it always was (we suspect the same chefs may be involved) and only marginally more expensive than previously. With all these changes, the clientele has too, with the group of older but friendly locals being replaced with less old, less friendly ones - we wonder where they've all migrated too. Objectively, with only a few female friendly pubs in Enfield, this is one of the better places to have a drink. Our only problem is that there were more deserving candidates in Enfield for a makeover than the Stag.
