how to find it:

Stamford Brook: exit tube and up Goldhawk Road onto Chiswick High Road. Cross the road and left back toward Hammersmith. Carry on then take a right down Black Lion Lane, use the underpass to cross the A4 at the end of it, and then head down the second half of Black Lion Lane.

picture of Black Lion Decent pub near, but not on, the river near Chiswick. Has a standard range of ales on tap and the usual lagers and bottled beers. Despite being a fair size, this one can be a bit quieter than some of the other pubs nearby (no bad thing, really). Friendly staff, the menu looked fine and a beer garden for the summer. And after a recent change in ownership, this one now lays on music nights as well. The Black Lion may not be as famous as the Dove or as popular as the Old Ship, but arguably it's the pub along this stretch of the Thames that offers the most pleasant drinking experience.
