picture of Zulus BarThis was once a fantastic (okay, good building, nice pub) gin palace called the Red Lion. Now, it's been gutted and turned into a South African theme park cum pub that wouldn't look that out of place at Disney. That said, they obviously have a loyal clientele, though we didn't realise that many South Africans lived in E11. Big sofas, lots of standing room and a large bar complement the diverse range of drinks from the other side of the equator - Redd's Premium Cold cider was very appley and a welcome surprise. The volume of the music makes it difficult to have a quiet chat, but then it's obviously not the place for that. An odd place, but it seems to fill a need for the area . However, the locals who used to come here now don't and they've been replaced by a much younger crowd. Bouncer on the door at weekends.
