sorry no picture of this pubWe didn't have many nice things to say about the Prince Edward on our last visit - with an intimidating atmosphere it was a most unpleasant time; the e-mails we subsequently received for the review didn't help, either. Still, we recently undertook a return visit and can certainly say we had a considerably better time. Situated up the road from the infamous women's prison, it wasn't - as you might half expect - full of prison officers. Instead there was good service and a broad mix of customers, both young and old - even if a couple of the hardened regulars around the bar didn't exactly make it easy to order our drinks. Apart from plenty of interesting features to admire inside there were also some Watney Coombe & Reid brewery lanterns hanging outside - the usual indicator of a bar still being in the traditional mould. A gantried bar, comfy bench seating and a wonderful looking jukebox add to the charm. There was also a pretty and well maintained front beer garden. The Holloway Road area has it fair share of older-style pubs and whilst not outstanding, the Prince Edward is a good pub for the nearby residents.
