Part of a mini-chain, this pub feels like a larger version of a 1980s Barratt starter-home, all dark wood effect, mock stained-glass windows, and subdued upholstery with a fair bit of brick thrown in. Serving the usual range of beers and breezers to the residents of N14, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it feels strangely calming, with friendly bar staff, a few locals in polo shirts chattering at the bar, and soothing tunes from VH1 Classic playing on the TV screens. The downside of this is that Frank Windsor pops up every 10 minutes to remind you of your own mortality in the ad breaks, but if you time it right, you could have your pint and a sarnie and be out again before Carol Vorderman tries to sell you a low-cost loan. They also have live music at weekends, though it does seem a bit compact for that, so it may prove to be of the 'one man and his guitar' sort.
