Charlton Village boasts two very pleasant pubs for discerning locals: the White Swan, and the Bugle Horn. Situated near Charlton House, the Bugle Horn is the first of the pubs as you enter the village coming down from Blackheath. A rather odd looking place in some respects: inside, with its cosy low ceilings, it's easy to see how this pub was formed from three 18th century cottages, but from the outside has a slightly more modern feel to it. It has the usual Charlton Athletic paraphernalia adorning the walls, but as you'd expect, it's very much part of the landscape here, and why not, Charltonites are by and large proud of their team. The pub boasts "cask conditioned ales" on its exterior - when we visited they had Bombardier and Greene King IPA on draught. The pub has a slightly laid back and friendly feel to it, and we certainly weren't hurried out after time was called on a Friday night. Like the White Swan, very much a local's pub, but very welcoming.
