picture of Ruby LoungeA stones throw from the less-than-salubrious Pentonville Road, the overriding impression when walking into this branch of the small Ruby chain was 'red' - very, very red. Inside, almost every lamp was dark red and everyone inside looked like they had a bad case of sunburn. This, plus the usual de rigueur brown leather squares and bench seating seen across London made for a dark atmosphere. Adorning some of the walls were what looked like giant 8 foot glowing red Lego bricks, although we also heard them described, less glamourously, as giant boils too. As it is, none of this was actually bad. On our weekday visit, despite not being overly busy (or perhaps because it wasn't), the ambience was relaxed, service good and the music, to use the vernacular, was 'chilled'. As we left a few drinks later, to venture towards Kings Cross, our eyes had to recover from the shock of seeing the whole spectrum of colours again. Whatever you do, don't take a colour-blindness test after coming here.
