Having realised that the retail norm of a uniform, widely identifiable brand doesn't always work in the pub game, the people behind the Hogshead brand (R.I.P.) have engineered a tactical retreat with a bit of rebranding and have given their pubs individual, localised names. This one, being in Camden, has been appropriately renamed the Earl of Camden. Well, it sounds grand enough and with more subtle lighting and improved furniture it has become a better, more pub-like establishment. There's exposed brickwork, some faux wooden panelling and a pool table, sadly accompanied by the cold service sometimes associated with chain bars who, at least in part, reply on transitory clientele. No-one will be rushing here for the unimaginative drinks list or standard pub grub, but then again, its not a pub aimed at the fussy pubgoer. The name notwithstanding, there are scores of very similar places and this pub doesn't provide anything interesting or different. (New photo to come).
