The Engine Room, Blakes, Lush...and now Fifty-Five. This poor old Victorian pub has gone through numerous changes over the last few years - with mixed results - but has now moved the focus towards cocktails. Run and staffed by bartenders, the standard is as high as you'd hope for and with something like 160 cocktails on offer, the choice almost too much - we plumped for a couple of fruity concoctions which went down nicely. Most are reasonably priced either side of the £5 mark, but there are also a few bottled beers if you don't fancy the agony of choice. The decor certainly isn't ground breaking, but a few musically inspired posters give the place a bit of character and its certainly an improvement on some previous incarnations. Our visit didn't find it dramatically busy, but we've yet to experience it on the weekend. Nonetheless, service was charming enough and the ambience comfortable, which alone makes it a notch above some of the other alternatives towards nearby Stables Market.
