how to find it:

Right out of Blackfriars station, across Queen Victoria Street and 2nd Left up Andrews Hill. From St. Paul's go down past the front of the Cathedral, down Ludgate Hill and take the left down Creed Lane, just past the zebra crossing. Carter Lane is where these two roads meet.

picture of Rising SunThis pub is situated down Carter Lane - an alley between Ludgate Hill and Queen Victoria Street that has a Dickensian feel. The pub is quite fetching on the outside, but the inside is a single large drinking room with a bar thrust into the centre. It has a massive projection screen so it gets the footy crowd in on key nights but that's in keeping with the pub's boisterous atmosphere. Reasonable range of bitters and the Guinness is well kept along with Shepherd Neame's Spitfire as a fixture. But that's not all, upstairs there is more - the Malai Thai restaurant. The food is good, the service prompt and courteous in the upstairs room and it's all very reasonably priced - especially for the City. Lunchtimes is pretty busy so it's worth ringing (020 7236 2634), and closes early some evenings, although it will often be standing room only towards the end of the week. A definite stop on a St. Paul's to Blackfriars pub crawl.
