how to find it:

Take the Great Eastern Street exit out of Old Street tube (exit 3) and wander down Old Street for a minute or two. The pub is on the right by the junction with Great Eastern Street.

picture of Nelsons RetreatStaunchly traditional (but not olde worlde) and flying in the face of all the style bars peppered around the area, the Nelson's Retreat is very much a locals' pub. The beer won't get CAMRA members foaming at the mouth and likewise the food won't set any epicurean pulses racing. But it does the job for the locals and its popularity on a Saturday afternoon is testament to this. However, you should know there's a 20p surcharge during big screen pay-per-view events and after 11pm.
