how to find it:

From Wandsworth Town station turn right and walk along Old York Road before turning left up Tonsley Hill, going all the way up to East Hill. Cross the road and head down East Hill and you'll see the pub.

picture of Royal OakIt's been a couple of years since we've stopped by at this one, and although the owners have changed the pub's independent spirit has been maintained. It's not the largest of pubs, but it does its best to squeeze in a range of punters: when we were last in, a cup match was on the TV, a group were meeting up for a Saturday night out and a romantic couple at the back were doing their best to hide away from everyone else. There's also a large selection of board games to shake a dice over, and a quiz on a Thursday night. It's notable that proceeds from the quiz go to a Gambian educational charity - can any other pub claim that? (New photo to come).
