Exit tube, turn right, and head onto the High Street. Double back round and follow the street. You should pass a fire station on your left and a library on your right. Keep on this main road and you'll find the pub after about 10 mins walk, just opposite the Auction Rooms.

picture of WoolpackAnother Southgate pub at the receiving end of a face-lift, this is a decent-sized local which is having a bit of an identity crisis. The painted boards list the plethora of entertainments on offer from live music to the weekly pub quiz, and the obligatory jukebox offers a choice of a hundred CDs which were blasted out at a fair number of decibels on our weekday afternoon visit. Added to this, the pub currently hosts quite possibly the most loudest and most annoying game on the market, where punters blast away at a screen with deafening plastic guns. Why? However, there's another side to the place. If you can get them to turn the jukebox down and unplug the shoot 'em up special, this is a fairly welcoming little place, with a wide range of decently-priced pub food, plenty of choice on tap, and a rather nice little pub garden. Service is friendly and attentive, and the place is often used by the Bargain Hunters who flock to the Southgate Auction Rooms across the road. You never know: you might just bump into David Dickinson one night. But don't let that put you off.
