When we heard the Black Bull had closed and was recruiting an Indian chef, we thought one of the better boozers in Whitechapel had bitten the dust, with conversion to another restaurant being its fate. Then upon seeing a temporary sign hanging outside with the words 'Bar Nakoda' on it, this was practically a confirmation. However, to our surprise, despite the already dated sounding name, not a huge amount inside has changed. The comfy bench seating has gone, but the nice wood panelling remains, as does the excellent choice of ale. As per the recruitment of a chef, Indian food is now on offer, too. Clearly just opened, we don't know if further changes are afoot here, so we'll keep our fingers crossed - and a close eye on developments. For the time being, at least, this is still a good pub.
