Located in the myriad courtyards and alleyways off Cornhill, this venerable City watering hole is now under the ownership of the people who brought you Tup pubs. But fear not, over 300 years of atmosphere haven't been traded in for stripped pine and Jamiroquai CDs. Saying that, there is a bit of a Tup air to the downstairs bar, with treated wood and high stools replacing the leather sofas and clubby atmosphere. The main bar retains an old-fashioned feel, with enough nooks and crannies to satisfy the most furtive of drinkers. It's a popular pub and can fill up quickly, usually for the duration. Quaint touches include a self-service, coin-operated humidor, but this setting surely deserves a real butler for this. A five pint setting then, but still only a three pint pub.
