picture of Effra Catering for a wide cross-section of Brixton society, this is the sort of constant, never-changing pub you could set your watch by. Expect Guinness and Red Stripe on tap, Jamaican home-cooking and regular live jazz in the evenings. It's not the largest of pubs, but the fact that it manages to cram so much into a small space adds to the Effra's air of bonhomie. You could quibble that the interior of this one has seen better days, but there's still enough remnants in the decor that hint at this one's rather grander past. The Effra is never going to be the trendiest pub in SW2, but as a dependable local boozer in the area, it's hard to beat.
