Like most of the Nicholson's pubs in the West End, this one's gleaming after a polish and general tidy up. It's doing its best to stand out from the general madness of this part of town: unfortunately it's still all you'd expect from the only pub on London's busiest road. It serves an ever changing throng of shoppers, tourists and chancers and quickly fills up. The Victorian décor hints at past glories, but unless you enjoy hopping over shopping bags then a scrum at the bar before you get served, head downstairs for a slightly more peaceful drinking environment.
