Despite a nice back street location and a relatively attractive exterior, the Sir Alexander Fleming is a bit of a wasted opportunity. A change of ownership in 2006 cleared away the plants outside, along with the net curtains and apparently the rather scary clientele, only to replace it with essentially nothing. So its pretty soulless overall - the unattractive bar sits at odds with an otherwise bland and forgettable space - we weren't expecting a penicillin-themed pub, but a better nod to the great man after whom the pub is named wouldn't have gone amiss. A recent Friday night visit found a fairly lively mix of locals and a few people who'd obviously wandered in from the myriad of local hotels. It's a shame the two large screen TV's were used to blast our eardrums with tunes from a middle of the road music channel.
