picture of The PhoenixMismatched furniture, candles, a good selection of beer and well made food are all present and correct in this non-branded chain pub run by M&B. Atmospherically, however, this one fares less well compared to others we have been to. It maybe the transient after work clientele, the ever-present bouncers or the amount of high level seating, but it doesn't feel as chilled out as it could be. Still, the large basement with regular DJs and a late licence means there's plenty of extra space, even if some of the peeling and cracked couches go beyond 'postmodern' into 'tatty' territory. Ultimately, the Phoenix isn't a bad place if you fancy a loud and lively Friday night and its also pretty useful midweek as a meeting place very close to Oxford Circus.
