No room for a Scottish theme bar in this part of town anymore: a shame, as part of us would have liked to have seen this one go the whole hog and become a strict Calvinist house, preaching the values of temperance and handing out leaflets of a Sunday: roaring the gospel in the depths of SE1. Instead, the name's reverted back to the Woolpack and after a refit along modern lines, it's reopened for business. The Woolpack is now probably the nearest you'll get to a pub - rather than a gastropub, kitchen or lo slung New York diner - on, ahem, SoBo, as we're sure all the cool kids call Bermondsey Street. Slightly less pretension then, with a beer garden for the summer months and a plentiful supply of Leffe and Hoegaarden to keep the natives from getting restless. Hardly a classic, or that original, but as a pub on this stretch it's probably the best you can do.
