how to find it:

From just outside Blackheath train station, hop on a 54, 89 or 108 bus heading towards Greenwich. Get off at the roundabout which links to Old Dover Road. Walk down Old Dover Road for five minutes, crossing the road bridge, before reaching the pub on your left.

picture of British OakIf you ever need to see how a great local should be - come to this pub. It's got everything just right - a great selection of well-kept beers (frequently changing, varied guest ales), great service, traditional pub games and a great atmosphere. The Oak changed hands a little while ago and its new owners have given it an overdue coat of paint. Home-cooked food is now advertised too but we haven't sampled it yet. Thankfully, nothing fundamental has changed and the Oak is still a fine pub. It's the epitome of conviviality, we need say no more.
