This pub should be no stranger to any visitor to London, as the coach loads of tourists are testament to its world-wide recognition. It bills itself as the "oldest riverside pub in London" and there's no reason to disbelieve this. It's an attractive old place, with an unusual pewter bar, cute olde worlde nooks and crannies and extensive riverside views, but its once dominant presence on Wapping Wall has been diminished in recent years by the developments towering around it. The pub's only nods to the 21st century are a couple of squashy settees and an ATM, which hardly affect the historic atmosphere. All-in-all it's a pretty good pub, there are decent beers on the hand pumps - Broadside, Speckled Hen and IPA, when we were last in. The food is okay and the location and views make it well worth a visit, but the pub's popularity does mean a premium price.
