This pub has in great measure all the characteristics that make J. D. Wetherspoon such a successful owner of pubs that aren't, with notable exceptions, much fun to drink in. Yes, you can bring your kids and the beer is cheap. Yet, despite the lack of music the lone drinker (there are many) can listen to, and take part in, a symphony comprising mobile phones on the treble, admittedly interesting chatter in the mid range and emphysemic coughing bringing up the bass. But the central part of the pub, with its glass roof and snug seats is acceptable and there's some wonderful original tiling visible behind the all-consuming blandness. The beer is good and the staff friendly. It's a pub that would be superb if only it used its imagination.
