OK, it's formula stuff, but there's something comforting and professional about this large, welcoming, well laid out modern bar where female office workers, groups of working men and the occasional marooned solo dependency-drinker coexist happily. The big bar gains some intimacy through good use of stool-surrounded pillars, varied seating areas and a raised section offering a degree of privacy at partitioned tables. The beer range is uninspiring, with even the Tetley's and Bass often 'off' but there is normally some bitter and at bargain-basement prices. Session drinkers will be tempted by the quality brand spirits at two quid a double including mixer. Winos are well catered for too with recognised labels being shifted at just a couple of pounds more than supermarket prices. Gluttons will delight that the pub fare comes in standard, large and kingsize - does anyone ever really order the king size bangers and mash (a mere 5.95) which features nine sausages?
