picture of The FlaskOne pub trend we'll be seeing a lot more of in 2008 is the continuing rollout of refits of pubs owned by the Wells & Young's brewery. So, prepare yourselves for more carpets to be taken up and photographs of the Queen Mother pulling a pint to be packed away, all to be replaced by more modern interiors and soft lighting. The latest pub to get this treatment is this old Hampstead fail-safe. The changes here actually haven't been as dramatic as in other old Young's pubs, mostly due to the elegant partition which separates the pub into two distinct bars remaining in place. The smaller 'public' bar to the left of the partition was always more of a traditional drinking area to the 'saloon' to the right, and this feel has definitely been maintained (and that's not always the case when Young's renovate their pubs). Whilst more emphasis is now placed on the quality of the food served here, there hasn't been any discernible drop in the quality of the beers served. This one will still prove a popular spot for locals and visitors to Hampstead alike, and when we last looked in was proving popular with local parents with their prams (a delight to some, a hindrance to others).
