picture of The FlaskFor a long time the Flask has been a great traditional boozer - a rambling olde worlde experience in the olde world village of Highgate. Stories of ghosts and Dick Turpin only add to a sense of it being a bit special. Sadly the only ghost you're likely to encounter these days is that of a once excellent pub. Being an M&B's unbranded pub, it does the usual good range of ales and continental lagers, but the food is expensive and supremely disappointing. Some of the obligatory loungey furnishings sit at odds with the aged interior and the view from the front is now filled with an ugly permanent gazebo, a massive generator and poorly arranged garden furniture. Its also odd for a pub which is frequently incredibly busy to have closed the larger of the two bars, leading to frustrated customers and long queues. Added to this service is patchy; considering we visited at the quiet end of the week empty pint pots and dirty ashtrays remained uncollected everywhere. Ultimately, to get the best out of the Flask, visit out of peak times and avoid the food, but it really should be performing better than this.

Eating at The Flask ... we last ate here on 16/04/2007

The Welsh lamb burger was small and of below average quality, with meagre garnish and a sorry portion of chips. At £8.50 we were distinctly unimpressed. We spied equally unhappy customers. The lamb burger at the nearby Wetherspoons is actually better (and we don't say that lightly).
