how to find it:
From Bethnal Green tube: Take the Cambridge Heath Road exit and find a bus which goes up the road toward Hackney (they mostly all do). Once the bus crosses the canal, the pub is about three streets further on on the left, next to the BP garage. Both Cambridge Heath and (unsurprisingly) London Fields train stations very close.

One can imagine that perhaps once upon a time this was a lively local's pub catering to the great and good of Hackney. Our last visit, however, found a different kind of pub and one possibly on it's last legs. Friday evening found a thin scattering of predominantly older locals in situ, some of whom had been there since the afternoon. They would periodically drown out the sound of the racing on the TV with impromptu tuneless singsongs. No ale, as you might imagine, we plumped for some Carlsberg, but with that no longer available, the landlady kindly recommended the unusual alternative of Carling, which is apparently "popular with the locals". The décor is basic, having lost it's lustre a long time ago, save for a gantried bar but the pool table was popular. A depressing pub for sure, but one in which we were at least able to enjoy our mediocre drinks in peace.
