Before the Gladstone changed ownership, we had quite a soft spot for it. Sadly, it seems that no-one else did, because after being perennially bereft of custom, it was taken under the wing of the people who run the semi-famous Filthy McNasty's in Angel. Since then, its been rather good - not that we'd expect any less from them. It's a tiny place, barely enough seating for 30 people and even if they haven't been efficient with the space (a massive table and a long couch) on a weekday evening its most comfortable. Being tied to McNasty's its no surprise to hear it plays host to regular music nights (folk, blues and acoustic), although in such a tiny space we're not sure where they'll be able to perform. The service seems to be in slow motion sometimes, but its such a good natured place that you really don't mind. Borough has its fare share of good pubs and the Gladstone doesn't do this reputation a disservice.
