A stone's throw from a number of civil service departments, but most notably Defra, this is an acceptable enough watering hole for the politicos of the area. Downstairs has been fairly recently refurbished, in 'London Transport' style (ie: they've removed a fair few seats to facilitate more standing customers), which takes away some of the charm it once had. Virtually every night finds it very busy here, with talk of environmental directives, emission targets and early retirement not too far from earshot, with the crowds only thinning out by 9pm or so. There's a fair range of ales, but all too often they run out of the majority by mid evening, giving us Hobson's_choice more than once, while a quiet upstairs retreat is often booked by leaving parties. Overall, it maybe fine, but this isn't one to make a beeline for unless you work in the immediate area.
