Located in the strange no man's land between Lambeth and Kennington, the Tankard's prime asset is its proximity to the Imperial War Museum. That said, however, most of its customers look more Changing Rooms than 1940s House. Entering the Tankard, you may at first wonder whether it is a pub or a bar; the wood-fired pizzas and adverts for Wednesday salsa classes soon settle that question. Service was poor on our visit: the Italian barmaid struggled to cope with changing a barrel of Guinness and we had to return to the bar to get our drinks after some ten minutes. Perhaps that was why everyone else was drinking bottled beer and wine. On the plus side, there is a spacious terrace on the roof which is a great place for a drink on a sunny day.
