In Greek mythology, Hercules had to perform 12 labours, or seemingly impossible tasks, as a punishment for killing his wife and children. His reward for completing them appears to be the naming of a pub in his honour opposite an Odeon cinema (unless the name is actually paying homage to large military aircraft). A pre-Cinema pint may be a reason to visit, though a number of superior options are nearby. Inside used to be characterised by a strong aroma of stale smoke from the well-worn carpet, which may date from the time of Hercules, but this is beginning to fade. The ban also brought the demise of the world's smallest non-smoking section, consisting of two small tables and armchairs which would look at home in a gentleman's club. At the back of the pub there are a couple of sofas and a pool table as well as a large screen for football.
