Windmill on the Common, Clapham Common  

What with a bar, lounge, restaurant, conservatory and plenty of tables outside, there's enough room here for anyone who ambles in from Clapham Common. However, given it's large size it does sometimes feels a bit dead, especially on warm days when most of it's customers get their drinks and then head for the Common. This means if you want to enjoy a drink outdoors but still on the premises you will have your pints poured into plastic glasses. You can hardly blame them, as either the council or the glass bill will have made this necessary. Also, being a hotel (and the fact that the beer garden borders the hotel car park) can give the place the feel of a midlands travel tavern. Those criticisms aside, the usual Young's fayre is on offer and it's a handy meeting place before heading elsewhere. The Windmill was given a lick of paint not so long ago and we can report the restaurant is much more appealing since the previous buffet arrangement was finally terminated.
