Once the rough 'n' ready Hampshire, this grand property a short way down Kings Street reopened in the late Summer of '07 as another branch of the small 'Ruby' chain. Premium lagers, cocktails and couches await intrepid Hammersmith bound explorers. Décor-wise, it looks pretty good here, with cow parsley and flock patterned wallpaper, 1970's lamps and other fittings from a variety of other styles and eras. It might be clean and sophisticated, but it's also pretty derivative of other places - a bit of a stylistic magpie, if you will. Indeed a separate dining area and some of "London's finest" DJs add to the feeling they're attempting to be all things to all people. Still, they do a good enough job and the back garden is very nice, presumably proving a draw during the summer months. Having timed our visit midweek it was pretty quiet here, so we'll go back at a more lively time to see whether Ruby Grand can lure the more discerning drinker down from the sea of rubbishy bars around Hammersmith proper.
