picture of The Old ShipSome pubs just work. This is one. Clean, stylish wood panelling and beams give an appropriate ship like feel to a place that has been serving ale since at least 1735 when it was major coaching stop. And a newly introduced beer and skittles night on the second Monday of the month sounds like a fun nod to tradition. Other Monday nights feature quizzes. But the 21st century is represented by three substantial plasma screens for the big sports events - it gets understandably popular for Rugby. There are two bars served by the central island as well as an the upstairs bar which can be hired out. Good drink and ambience for all. The only negative we can attribute here is the quality of the food, which we found to be rather basic and unimaginative tourist fodder. Still, worthy of stopping by for a few pints.

Eating at The Old Ship ... we last ate here on 03/02/2007

The beefburger and chips (which intially looked like reasonable value) was simply not worth the money - disappointing.
