Recently the Crown & Sceptre has undergone a modest transformation changing it from an almost standing-room-only interior to the much more loungey style of interior we've come to expect from Mitchells and Butlers. The booze is pretty much as it was, with a few real ales (eg Pride) and Continental beers on tap, a decent wine list and plenty of spirits if you're in need of the hard stuff. With the interior changes and a renewed emphasis on food, it's no longer the smokey hardcore booze and sport pub it long ago once was and, given the changes happening in the area - moving upmarket and more residential, it's probably a wise move. The Friday night media and rag trade crowd might not notice the difference, but at quieter times it's a welcome improvement. Handy for recovering from shopping expeditions to the hell that is Oxford Street.
