how to find it:
From Angel, go out of the station and carry on along Upper Street past the Business Design Centre and the Green. It's about 15 minutes walk from the tube. Pass the Kings Head Theatre Club, and it's just down on the left side of Upper Street. From Highbury and Islington, go out of the station and turn right towards Upper Street. The bar is only maybe 10-15 minutes walk down and on the right.

Oh, Islington. Look at you, with your come-to-bed eyes, your fancydan football team and your swathes of young things looking for a good time. And we know what you're up to with Hope & Anchor. Get some bands in, market them to the kids, and then sell them that strange Brazilian bottled lager that's so in vogue these days. And by and large, it works. The Hope & Anchor attracts the crowd not catered to in the numerous Pitcher & Piano/All Bar One/The Garden type bars further up the road towards Angel. It proffers music in a tiny basement, and the imbibing of liquids while sweating to said tunes. Upstairs, there's a cracking jukebox and it's all very cool and skinny jeans-esque, apart from the local old geezer who sits and people-watches all night. It's (still) a music pub, it's a bit sticky and it sells beer. Nuff said.
